The RV‑X‑TENDER is a bolt-on ladder extension that gives you a tall, solid handhold above the roofline, so getting on and off your RV roof stops being the part you dread.
It clamps to the factory ladder you already have. No drilling, no cutting, nothing permanent, and it stows nearly flat so a closed rear awning still clears it.

The problem
The last step is the one that scares people
Your factory RV ladder stops at the roofline. There is nothing to hold above the roof, so the last move onto the roof is a blind reach with both hands full of nothing.
On a truck camper it is worse. A closed rear awning sits in the way, so the ladder cannot reach past the roof at all. Most owners end up dragging out a twelve foot extension ladder, or asking someone to stand and spot them, or simply not going up there.
That is how roof maintenance gets postponed, and postponed maintenance is how a small open seam turns into a stained ceiling.

The RV‑X‑TENDER is an RV ladder extension that clamps onto the ladder you already have and rises above the roofline, so you climb on and off with both hands on something solid.

- Clamp it to your ladder. It clamps to the side rails of your existing RV or truck camper ladder. No drilling, no cutting, nothing permanent, and it comes straight off if you sell the camper.
- Swing it up when you need the roof. The arms pivot into the upright position in seconds and lock. No tools to find, nothing to carry out of the truck.
- Fold it down and forget it. Lowered, it sits nearly flat against the ladder and clears a closed rear awning, so it travels with you.

Fitment
Will it fit your camper?
Most standard RV and truck camper ladders are covered. The side rail shape decides which adapter you need, and there is one more part if you own a Northern Lite 10-2.
Use the 1.0″ round ladder adapter. Sold separately.
Use the 1.0″ square ladder adapter. Sold separately.
Required for Northern Lite 10-2 installations. They also suit any RV with 1.5″ round ladder side rails, giving extra height adjustment and more flexibility in positioning the RV‑X‑TENDER. Sold separately, $20 a pair.

We absolutely love our Northern Lite 8-11 camper, but if there was one flaw, it had to be the stock ladder. Every time I had to climb up to wash or maintain the roof, it felt like an extreme adventure sport!
Then one day, I saw Ben’s post in the Northern Lite Owners Group introducing his product. I was super excited and ordered one right away.
Unfortunately, shipping across the border to Canada came with some unexpected headaches—entirely due to the shipping company, not Ben. They canceled the delivery out of nowhere and started routing the package back to him. I was so frustrated and spent hours trying to track down the package, but had no luck.

For anyone with a Northern Lite 10-2, this is a must have.
I would call this “chimpanzee simple” to install. My engineer/machinist son mounted this in 30 minutes. The hardest part was making sure the collars were correctly located…easy. No more jankey ladder set ups leaning against the roofline of the camper with the awkward transition either on or off the ladder. Cleaning the roof…easy. Mounting the magnetic Starlink…easy. Installing the soft cover…easy.

We installed the RV‑X‑TENDER in March 2026, absolutely love it. Now I have the security to feel safe while going on the roof of our Northern Lite truck camper. Before going on the roof was sketchy at best, kind of a balancing act, coming down was worse. The product fit and finish in build quality is awesome. When lowered we swing one of the arms out and use it to hang hand towels or the dog leash from. Any emailed questions sent to Ben was promptly replied to.

The RV‑X‑TENDER has been an absolute game-changer for us. I used to avoid going on the roof of our 10-2 Northern Lite. Going up was ok, but going down was absolutely terrifying. I had to have a second person watching just so that I wouldn’t miss a step, and even then, because of the angle your legs would be at, you could easily slip. Now with the RV‑X‑TENDER I can go up and down with ease! It is so easy to put up and take down, and we ordered ours in white, which is beautiful! You would never know we installed it after we purchased the camper. One of the other things I have loved is how responsive the company has been to work with. They are quick to respond and take so much pride in the quality product they have made. Hands down, if you are going up on the roof of your camper, you need this! Honestly, one of the best and most impactful upgrades we have made to our camper!

I had many other methods to climb on the roof, always concerned about breaking either something on the camper ( skylight) or my aging body. The stock ladder is very hard to navigate with the overhang of the closed rear awning. The extender makes it safe and easy to get up and down. We’ll engineered and designed it is worth every penny! We love our Northern Lite 10-2 Dry Bath. We went from a Lance 1172 to our Northern Lite and love having no slides! We also really like having the side awning and rear awning. The main concern we had was the difficulty in getting on the roof due to the rear awning keeping the ladder from extending up onto the roof. The current method was just not safe.
Thankfully, we came across a post from Ben who figured out a solution. We reached out and and were fortunate enough to purchase one of his 3 prototypes. It is the exact solution we needed! The ladder extension is easy to install and and easy to store when not using. The extension folds down easily allowing the rear awning to extend, and easy to set up when needing to use!
We just returned from a 7 week trip in New England and are thrilled we found a safe solution.
Well worth the investment ! Definitely not worth falling off the top!
