The RV Ladder Extension for Safer Roof Access

Your factory ladder stops at the roofline. The RV‑X‑TENDER clamps on and gives you a tall, solid handhold above the roof, so stepping on and off stops being the part you dread.

The Problem

Factory ladders stop at the roofline

There is nothing to hold above the roof, so the last step is a blind reach. On truck campers a rear awning blocks the ladder from extending at all. Most owners end up hauling out a 12 foot extension ladder or asking someone to stand and spot them.

The Fix

The RV‑X‑TENDER gives you something to hold

It adds height above the roofline exactly where your ladder runs out, so you have two solid handholds through the transition, coming up and going down. No second ladder, no spotter, no guessing where your hands go.

How It Works

How It Works

  1. Clamp it on. It mounts straight to your existing RV ladder with no drilling and no permanent changes, so nothing about your camper is altered.
  2. Pivot it up. When you need the roof, the arms swing into the upright position in seconds. No tools.
  3. Climb with both hands. You get a tall, stable handhold right where a standard ladder runs out, which is the point where most falls happen.

Stability

Two solid handholds through the roofline transition, which is the step owners say used to frighten them.

It travels with you and deploys in seconds, so roof checks stop getting postponed.

Real Use Cases

What owners actually use it for

  • Cleaning solar panels, which need a look roughly every six months to keep charging properly
  • Checking roof seals on the 90 day cycle most manufacturers ask for, before a seam turns into a leak
  • Reaching antennas, Starlink and rooftop gear without talking yourself into it first

Roof access is how a camper lasts.

Not every camper comes with a ladder, and more manufacturers are leaving them off.

When there is one, it usually stops short and feels light underfoot.

Truck campers add a rear awning to the problem.

The awning sits in the way, so the ladder cannot reach past the roofline at all.

  1. Thang Do –

We absolutely love our Northern Lite 8-11 camper, but if there was one flaw, it had to be the stock ladder. Every time I had to climb up to wash or maintain the roof, it felt like an extreme adventure sport!
Then one day, I saw Ben’s post in the Northern Lite Owners Group introducing his product. I was super excited and ordered one right away.
Unfortunately, shipping across the border to Canada came with some unexpected headaches—entirely due to the shipping company, not Ben. They canceled the delivery out of nowhere and started routing the package back to him. I was so frustrated and spent hours trying to track down the package, but had no luck.
When I reached out to Ben and explained the situation, his customer service was nothing short of legendary. Ben went above and beyond to fix an issue that was completely out of his control. Without even waiting to receive the returned package back from the shipper, he immediately dispatched a brand-new order to me so I wouldn’t have to wait.
This is the first time I’ve seen a seller stand behind their product and their customers with such dedication. Because of how he handled things, I knew his product would be top-notch—and it truly is! The build quality is fantastic. I can now confidently and safely climb up to the top of my camper to wash and maintain it with total peace of mind.
Ben, thank you very much for everything! You’ve earned a customer for life. Highly recommended!

Thang, thank you for the kind words. The cool thing is, no company can be great without great customers and that’s exactly what you are, a great customer.

  2. Steve Teague –

For anyone with a Northern Lite 10-2, this is a must have.
I would call this “chimpanzee simple” to install. My engineer/machinist son mounted this in 30 minutes. The hardest part was making sure the collars were correctly located…easy. No more jankey ladder set ups leaning against the roofline of the camper with the awkward transition either on or off the ladder. Cleaning the roof…easy. Mounting the magnetic Starlink…easy. Installing the soft cover…easy.

Thanks for the simple product Ben, well engineered for the life of the product and good ol’ red blooded Made in the USA!

    Bravo Zulu!!!

Ben and his company are awesome. When you send a message via email, phone or he gets back to you within thirty minutes or less.
The product worked amazing on my Northerlite 9-6Q camper. I recommend everyone look into his product If you’re looking at a safe way to mount your starlink, mini dish.

  4. Mike Barnes –

We installed the RV‑X‑TENDER in March 2026, absolutely love it. Now I have the security to feel safe while going on the roof of our Northern Lite truck camper. Before going on the roof was sketchy at best, kind of a balancing act, coming down was worse. The product fit and finish in build quality is awesome. When lowered we swing one of the arms out and use it to hang hand towels or the dog leash from. Any emailed questions sent to Ben was promptly replied to.

  5. Jeffrey T. –

The RV‑X‑TENDER has been an absolute game-changer for us. I used to avoid going on the roof of our 10-2 Northern Lite. Going up was ok, but going down was absolutely terrifying. I had to have a second person watching just so that I wouldn’t miss a step, and even then, because of the angle your legs would be at, you could easily slip. Now with the RV‑X‑TENDER I can go up and down with ease! It is so easy to put up and take down, and we ordered ours in white, which is beautiful! You would never know we installed it after we purchased the camper. One of the other things I have loved is how responsive the company has been to work with. They are quick to respond and take so much pride in the quality product they have made. Hands down, if you are going up on the roof of your camper, you need this! Honestly, one of the best and most impactful upgrades we have made to our camper!

  6. Eric E –

Excellent concept, design and quality built. Packaging superb, very conscientious in shipment date, and installation simplicity. I had many other methods to climb on the roof, always concerned about breaking either something on the camper ( skylight) or my aging body. This product will make doing tasks up there safer and easier. It is lightweight and clean. Quality materials and manufacturing. I highly recommend.

  7. Cliff –

I love this product I feel safe climbing up on my roof now. I used to carry a flimsy retractable ladder because was just to hard to use the factory ladder. That first step off the roof was impossible for me. Not anymore I feel safe having the handles for support. A game changer.

  8. S. F. –

We have 2019 8’11 Northern Lite and the snow has melted enough so I was able to unpack and install it successfully. Very nice design and works beautifully! The ladder is wonderful! I no longer have to use a 12’ ladder to crawl on top.

  9. Bill Irwin –

I just received Ben’s ladder extender and installed it on my new 2016 Northern Lite 10.2 truck camper. A total game changer. The stock ladder is very hard to navigate with the overhang of the closed rear awning. The extender makes it safe and easy to get up and down. We’ll engineered and designed it is worth every penny! Ben goes over and beyond to get the unit to you.

  10. James Kerr –

We love our Northern Lite 10-2 Dry Bath. We went from a Lance 1172 to our Northern Lite and love having no slides! We also really like having the side awning and rear awning. The main concern we had was the difficulty in getting on the roof due to the rear awning keeping the ladder from extending up onto the roof. The current method was just not safe.

Thankfully, we came across a post from Ben who figured out a solution. We reached out and and were fortunate enough to purchase one of his 3 prototypes. It is the exact solution we needed! The ladder extension is easy to install and and easy to store when not using. The extension folds down easily allowing the rear awning to extend, and easy to set up when needing to use!

We just returned from a 7 week trip in New England and are thrilled we found a safe solution.

Well worth the investment ! Definitely not worth falling off the top!

    Enjoy your adventures!
